It seems that, like me, many of you are wondering how you can do your part to help protect and clean up our environment, which is awesome.

But it also seems that many times we overlook the obvious "go green things" we can start doing today… I mean, like… right now…. today!

So I thought I'd start off by posting a dozen go green things we can all start doing today at work or at our home office. Also keep in mind that some of these green things will probably even save you some money:

  1. Use recycled paper for your printers.

  2. Be sure to recycle all your paper and cardboard as well.

  3. Use spell check before printing out documents to avoid excessive printing and possible reprinting.

  4. Recycle ink and toner cartridges. Some office supply stores even offer a discount towards your next purchase if you bring in your old cartridges.

  5. Host online meetings rather than travel, whenever possible.

  6. Turn off your computer completely – don’t just leave it in sleep mode.

  7. Direct deposit your checks to save on paper and trips to the bank.

  8. Take the stairs rather than the elevator.

  9. Use a manual pencil sharpener.

  10. E-mail the office memo rather than passing out paper.

  11. Subscribe to online newspapers, trade publications and e-Zines instead of having periodicals delivered just to be thrown in the trash later.

  12. Publish your own e-Zines, or email newsletter instead of mailing a physical newsletter. This alone will save you thousands of dollars on printing and postage costs.

OK… So there you have it… 12 "go green things" you can start doing today, some that will probably help you save money over time. But even more importantly, these are small steps in the right direction to start preserving the resources we have.

And always remember… It’s not just about us. The choices we make today affect our kids, grand kids, and great grand kids.
